Somewhere near Puerto Vallarta
Dear Friends,
The Deckers have arrived safely in Puerto Vallarta, on the mainland of Mexico. The have had a great trip. Here are some of the highlights from Judy:
H everyone. We are happily tucked into the corner of the huge Bahia
Banderas, which is the harbor for Puerto Vallarta. The harbor is
20miles by 20 miles - surrounded by mountains that are covered in green.
The water temperature is 80d and the air is in the 80's also. The wind
died after 15 hours out of Cabo, and we essentially motored with the
main up, for 40 hours. As you make your way down the coast, the air gets
warmer and warmer, and finally those night passages are made in shorts
and a tee-shirt. The two night passage was uneventful, except Doug saw
his first sea turtle!
Last night we heard a "thud" and the motored started running hard. We
slowed to 5 knots, and then in the morning we also detected that the
bilge pump ran every time we turned on the water pump. A sure sign of a
leak. We decided to make for the anchorage just inside Bahia Banderas
to check things out. Captain Doug dove on the prop - with our handy
hooka scuba rig that Jason gave us for Christmas - and found a yellow
bait bag wrapped around the propellor! What a mess - but was remedied
fast. We then hunted down the water leak and found the pressure relief
valve on the hot water heater was spurting. Both fixes were fast and
easy.
After the maintenance, we decided to stay for a day or two in this
beautiful anchorage. There are five sailboats here - all a football
field apart. It looks like a luxury condo develop. on the beach with
tourists beach chairs the white sand - and a golf course on the hill
surrounded with date palms. Quite a lovely setting.

After a swim in the warm water, and a shower in the cockpit, we are
enjoying our cruising life, and wish you all well. Who in the heck is
our President?????? Love, Judy and Doug
